Hello! I’m Liz Neves, herbal educator and author of Northeast Medicinal Plants (Timber Press).

Carrying this book with you out in the field is like having a trusted friend introduce you to the medicinal plants in your backyard.

It is my passion to serve as a bridge between the plant and human realms. This book is a culmination of my experiences with herbs over the past 12 years, my transformative journey into motherhood, and my spiritual connection with the land and the plants.

I’ve been a resident of Lenapehoking my whole life, growing up in rural New Jersey and living for the past 18 years in Brooklyn, NY. Ironically it is in this urban landscape, not the rural land of my upbringing, where I was called to connect with the plants on a deeper level.

While Northeast Medicinal Plants is both a super practical field guide and herbal instruction manual, at the heart of it, woven deep within, is the mystical spirit of the plants.

It is a great honor and privilege to share the knowledge with you through this book.

I can’t wait until you can get a copy!

I’m kinda gushing over this book. Thank you so much for this offering. I’m flipping thru the pages and every plant featured I’m like no way holy shit black eyed Susan is medicinal?! This book is excellent for a NJ gal and I haven’t seen these plants that grow all where I live, regionally put together in a book for the east coast that is this detailed and accessible and all in one place with great info and pictures. I gathered some fallen boughs of white pine today and had never thought to harvest the bark. Just awesome. Thank you Liz ✊🏼💜💜

I have to just tell you that I am in love with your book! I borrowed it from the local library in late winter and immediately knew it was one that I wanted on my personal shelf. I ordered my own copy before I even returned the library copy! Thank you!

This 💚💚💚 is really such a beautiful, rich and magical read thus far. I am cracking into her today and my gosh- just in awe. Thank you so much for writing this and for signing it for me. Means the world. I am so excited to learn more about the sweet gum, sassafras and all of it as I have encountered such a vast array of plants/ trees here.

Thank you for making the Fall so much more special Liz🙏🏾💚

…loving it for the record, it’s so much more than a guide to identifying plants (which of course you know, but it took me reading to find out). As I try to navigate the world of medicinal plants I often feel a bit in over my head, but I think that’s what I’m enjoying as I spend time with this book - it’s helping me slow down, live with more intention, question my impact ... but it’s also just fun to realize things like, ‘Whaa that’s mugwort? I pass that every day at that house on the corner going to the subway.’

We want you to know how much your book has deepened our family’s appreciation of the natural world and helped transform quarantine from a time of uncertainty & fear to one of exploration & discover, when our daughter developed a new passion for identifying plants, foraging, and making medicine. We could not be more grateful!
Now your book comes with us hiking in the Catskills & Shawangunks near our home in Kingston and camping all around NY state. And of course it accompanied us to Cape Cod, when we foraged our first elderberry and delighted in the delicious sight & scent of beach rose.

Someday we hope to make it down to NYC for one of your walks so we can express our gratitude and geek out about plants in person.
— The Sarthou Family

Now is the time to learn the skills we need
to thrive in harmony with the natural world

And connecting and partnering with medicinal plants is an ideal way to do it!
